ON The TOWN In THE PALM BEACHES CELEBRATES BLACK CULTURE

Episode Airs Tuesday, August 10 on WPBT and Thursday, August 12 on WXEL

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (August 2, 2021) – On the Town in The Palm Beaches, the South Florida PBS-produced lifestyleseries that highlights popular tourist destinations as throughout Palm Beach County, has devoted an entire episode focused on Black businesses. The episode, “Black Voices” premieres August 10 at 7:30PM on WPBT and August 12 at 5:30PM on WXEL. The show will repeat in February 2022 during Black History month.

Host Frank Licari visits a variety of Black owned businesses, including Ericka Squire (Natural Movers Dance Project), Charlene Farring (Spady Cultural Heritage Museum,) Akbar Watson (Pyramid Books), Maui Goodbeer (Streetwaves.org), who teaches children of color to surf, and restaurateur Rahein Jones (The New Vegan.com). Also featured in the episode is golf “ambassador” Nathaniel Clark of Fairview Golf Club, an organization founded when people of color were not welcomed on mainstream, public golf courses; singers Yvette Norwood-Tiger (Palm Beach International Jazz Festival) and Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen.

“There is such a wealth of African-American history in Palm Beach County and many stories that deserve to be told. We were gratified to discover these unique and powerful business owners who not only enhance the Black community, but enrich Palm Beach County overall. This is truly a special episode,” says Joyce Belloise, Vice President of Content and Community Partnerships for South Florida PBS.

The series, On the Town in The Palm Beaches, is made possible by the Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council in cooperation with the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission. It is distributed on South Florida PBS (WPBT2 and WXEL), reaching millions of homes from Sebastian to the Florida Keys. A silmilar episode highlighting Hispanic culture in The Palm Beaches is planned for September during Hispanic Heritage month. After airing on South Florida PBS, both episodes will be available for on-demand viewing at ThePalmBeaches.TV
