TIGER (SHARK) KING
More than 20 years ago, Palm Beach County-based conservationist and diver Jim Abernethy discovered the affectionate side of large predatory sharks after removing a fishing hook from the jaws of a tiger shark. Since then, he has removed thousands of hooks from sharks and has brought divers to safely encounter these apex predators with the goal of destigmatizing the species. Abernethy has contributed to multiple productions over his years of work in conservationism and awareness, and the latest feature is a documentary short from Clayton Conn (BBC Radio) titled Tiger (Shark) King. Gorgeous footage of Abernethy’s close relationship with famed finned friend “Emma” and other tiger sharks shine a light on just how misunderstood these majestic creatures are.
