SUBTROPIC FILM FESTIVAL 2024 ANNOUNCES FULL PROGRAM LINEUP, OCT. 18-20, 2024

Film Festival Returns to West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach, FL – Subtropic Film Festival is thrilled to announce its official program for 2024, set to take place from October 18-20 in various venues across West Palm Beach. This three-day celebration of independent film, music, and art is designed to connect filmmakers, cinephiles, and the community at large. Tickets are now available to the public, with early-bird discounts available until October 4.

Film Program Highlights
The festival kicks off on October 18 at the Norton Museum of Art with the Opening Night Block, featuring short films from a diverse group of filmmakers from South Florida, including Michael Atwood (In Collaboration with Nature), Diana Larrea (Querido Pequeno Haiti), David W. Hamzik (Dear Florida), Gregory Pesochin (I Dream of Skating), and Ates Isildak (Celluloid Dreams: Early 20th Century Experimental Montage). 

The screenings and QA will be moderated by Wilkine Brutus, Palm Beach County correspondent and producer for WLRN, South Florida’s NPR station. 

The program continues on October 19-20 at Afflux Studios with 11 thematic film blocks, showcasing cutting-edge works such as Exposed: How Pesticides Harm Farmworkers by Esther Poveda, Federica Narancio, and Patricia Clarembaux, Lost Bois by Devyn Galindo, and international film Daydreaming so Vividly by Christian Aviles. Workshops, Panels, and Parties
In addition to screenings, Subtropic will feature an array of exciting workshops and panels for festival-goers. Highlights include:

• Celluloid Workshop, in partnership with Kodak Film Lab ATL and Throwback WPB
• AI in Filmmaking panel featuring filmmakers Alex Lugo, Ronald Baez, Jen Orta-Castellanos, and technologist Antonio Manueco
• Grant Writing, led by Teresa Grandal Cusse, of Impactifi
• FilmGate Panel, led by Diliana Alexander, executive director and cofounder of FilmGate, and panelists Alex Cohen, Derek Britt, and Julia Camara
• Sound Design workshops led by Emmy-winning sound mixer Dan Abrusci
• From Script to Screener workshop by Noah Salzman
• Live music, vinyl DJ sets, and more at various after-parties throughout the festival.

Ticket Information
General admission tickets for the festival can be purchased through Eventbrite. Attendees who purchase tickets before October 6 can take advantage of a 25% discount. Tickets for Opening Night at the Norton Museum are available separately via the museum's website for $10.

Daily Events
Subtropic Film Festival will also host networking events such as the Karaoke Pitch Filmmakers Connect and Studio B Party, where filmmakers and audience members can bond over their shared passion for storytelling. The festival will conclude with an awards ceremony on October 20, celebrating outstanding films across various categories.
