Submissions Sought For Inaugural Boynton Beach Short Film Festival

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (January 10, 2017) – Short film submissions are now being accepted for the inaugural Boynton Beach Short Film Festival (BBSFF), to be held April 20 -23, 2017, through a partnership between SouthTech Academy and Alco Boynton Cinema.

“The launch of the festival marks a great venture in merging Boynton Beach education and visual creativity. Under SouthTech Academy’s commitment to visual artistic education and expressionism and the Boynton Beach community’s connection to the arts through Alco Boynton Cinema, the festival will carve its filmmaking niche as a definitive Florida arts destination,” said Jon Palardis, BBSFF director and DIGIFILM instructor at SouthTech Academy. The festival is unique as it is driven by the Digital Film & Broadcast Academy at SouthTech Academy charter school in Boynton Beach.

According to Palardis, the BBSFF will be an annual Boynton Beach event serving as a hub for the filmmaking community, celebrating the “creativity of edgy, provocative, and inspirational storytelling that captivates a wide audience.” Categories include animation, Caribbean/international, comedy, documentary, drama, experimental, horror/thriller, Jewish heritage, LGBTQ, music video, romance, sci-fi, and multi-form/other. Films can be submitted at https://filmfreeway.com/festival/BBSFF. The regular submission deadline is February 4, 2017 and late deadline is March 4. Individuals will be notified of acceptance on March 18.

The festival is open to all Florida professional filmmakers, as well as college, high school and middle school student filmmakers. No other submissions will be accepted. All filmmakers are encouraged to submit films created within the last 12 months and in any of the listed categories. Middle school students may only enter documentary films; no other middle school submissions will be accepted. Films will only be accepted with a total run time (TRT) of 30 minutes and under. All student films must be accompanied by a photocopy of a current student ID or other legal documentation of student status.
