The 29^th ANNUAL PALM BEACHES STUDENT SHOWCASE OF FILMS
Florida's Largest Free Student Film Competition and Award Show

 PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (October 2, 2023) – G-Star student Tyndall Dickinson, walked away with two awards including the Burt Reynolds scholarship and $7k in cash prizes last season. And YOU could be next!

After a critically acclaimed, record-breaking show in 2023, The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films returns April 26, 2024, for another unforgettable red-carpet award show. The call for entries starts now.

Submissions are being accepted for the 29^th Annual Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF). This free-to-enter competition is open to aspiring filmmakers, writers, graphic designers, and digital media artists currently enrolled in any high school or college in Florida. Students have a chance to win more than $24K in 2024 in cash, scholarships, and prizes. The SSOF has awarded more than $4.4 million.

2024 AWARD CATEGORIES: 

As a tribute to the legacy of film legend Burt Reynolds, the SSOF will present to a Palm Beach County high school senior, The Burt Reynolds Scholarship Award, a $5,000 cash prize. Mr. Reynolds was a Palm Beach County icon, longtime supporter, and frequent presenter at the SSOF. Runners-up in this selection process will have a chance to win one of three prizes; The $1,000 Sara Fuller Scholarship, $1,000 Mel Maron Scholarship, and new this year, $1,000 Gray Family Scholarship.

Entries are viewed and evaluated by a panel of entertainment industry experts from around the globe. Some past judges include but are not limited to Rap star Vanilla Ice, American Idol and America's Got Talent musical director Michael Orland, four-time Primetime Emmy award-winning visual effects superstar Adam Howard, Grammy-nominated songwriter Elsten Torres, founding pioneer of the digital art movement Laurence Gartel, Hollywood composer Hal Rosenfeld, Emmy-nominated actress Kelsey Scott, Emmy and Grammy-nominated composer Ryan Shore, acclaimed artist and founder of The Boynton Beach Art District Rolando Chang Barrero,  TV and film producer Elayne "E.K." Keratsis, award-winning music producer and composer Jamie Cuadra, and more.

Get ready for another memorable competition where we will unveil the best of Florida’s new generation of filmmakers and artists. Winners will be announced at the live awards show in Jupiter, Florida, on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the newly expanded Maltz Jupiter Theatre that celebrates its 20^th anniversary season.  Frank Licari, the award-winning actor, director, and host of South Florida PBS' On the Town in The Palm Beaches with Frank Licari, will return to host another unforgettable awards show. Guests can enjoy networking opportunities with industry professionals and a show filled with original performances, clips from our finalists, and two new exciting award categories that are sure to be fan favorites. We will see how students put their best work together to show why we all #LoveThePalmBeaches and meet some educators who exemplify excellence in the film and television industry.

After receiving a record-breaking 528 eligible submissions from 75 schools across the state, the 2023 award show welcomed 650 students and their families, along with celebrity presenters, industry pros, media, state and county dignitaries, performers, and more. The ode to the ‘90s showcased classic films, music, and décor that pulled the audience into a time machine to the past. The SSOF is the cornerstone of the education outreach initiative of the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission. The competition engages faculty and school administrators in guiding student participation. The SSOF is funded by the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners through the Department of Housing & Economic Development and produced by the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission.
