Florida's Largest Student Film Competition and Award Show

 

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (January 23, 2025) – The countdown is on and the clock is ticking! Attention all student directors, producers, filmmakers, and digital media artists! The spotlight is on you as Florida’s next wave of visionary talent prepares to take center stage. A world-class film competition is just around the corner, ready to discover and propel the Sunshine State's rising film stars!

Students currently enrolled in any high school or college in Florida still have time to submit their entries before the deadline on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Watch the call for entries video here! For three decades, The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) has celebrated the artistry and innovation of Florida’s student filmmakers, and this year marks its 30th anniversary!

In honor of this milestone, funding has increased from $28K to $30K in cash, scholarships, and prizes thanks to our generous sponsors. In 2024, a record-breaking 529 submissions from 93 Florida schools set a high bar, and 2025 aims to surpass it as the next class of top students showcase their talents. The SSOF is Florida's largest student film competition and award show, and an elite panel of judges will determine the next round of winners.  The one-step submission process requires uploading projects through FilmFreeway.  Visit pbfilm.com/ssof to view individual category pages for detailed entry requirements and instructions.

This landmark anniversary adds an extra layer of excitement, further solidifying the competition’s reputation as a launchpad for the emerging talent of this incredible generation, as they embark on their journeys toward becoming industry professionals,” says Michelle Hillery, Film Commissioner of the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission.

In the following categories, finalists will be announced at the live awards show on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Maltz Jupiter Theater.  The red carpet rolls out at 9:30 a.m. and the award show begins at 10:30 a.m.

*As a tribute to the legacy of film legend Burt Reynolds, the SSOF will present The Burt Reynolds Scholarship Award to a Palm Beach County high school senior – a $5,000 cash prize.  Mr. Reynolds was a Palm Beach County icon, longtime supporter, and frequent presenter at the SSOF.  Runners-up in this selection process will have a chance to win one of these prizes: The $1,000 Film Florida Sara Fuller Scholarship, $1,000 Mel Maron Scholarship, $1,000 Gray Family Scholarship and $1,000 Dr. B. Carleton Bryant Scholarship.

**NEW: The Nellie & Fred Chasin Screenwriting Award has increased from $650 to $1,000.  Additionally, the Teacher of the Award now includes a $1,000 award – students, don’t forget to nominate your favorite instructor!
