Florida's Largest Student Film Competition and Award Show

 

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (February 5, 2025) – Time is of the essence, but now you’ve got an extra chance!  The submission deadline for the 30th Annual Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) has officially been extended by one week. The new deadline for entries is now set for Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 12:00 noon.

Calling all rising directors, producers, screenwriters, graphic designers, and digital media artists – prepare to be part of a world-class film festival competition that catapults top talent from Florida's student filmmaking scene into the center stage spotlight.

For three decades, the SSOF has celebrated the creativity, artistry and innovation of Florida’s student filmmakers, and this year marks its 30th anniversary! In honor of this milestone, funding has increased from $28K to $30K in cash, scholarships, and prizes, thanks to generous sponsors.

With the extended deadline just around the corner, put some pep in your step! Time is of the essence for currently enrolled students in any high school or college in Florida. In 2024, a record-breaking 529 submissions from 93 Florida schools set a high bar, and 2025 aims to surpass it as the next class of top students showcase their talents. Don’t miss an opportunity to be part of a legacy of excellence in student filmmaking! 

The SSOF is Florida's largest student film competition and award show, and an elite panel of judges will determine the next round of winners.  The one-step submission process requires uploading projects through FilmFreeway. Posters can be mailed or delivered but must be received by the extended deadline. Teacher nominations are a one-step process by emailing [email protected]. In the following categories, finalists will be announced at a glamorous live award show on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Maltz Jupiter Theater. The red carpet rolls out at 9:30 a.m. and the award show begins at 10:30 a.m.

*As a tribute to the legacy of film legend Burt Reynolds, the SSOF will present The Burt Reynolds Scholarship Award to a Palm Beach County high school senior – a $5,000 cash prize.  Mr. Reynolds was a Palm Beach County icon, longtime supporter, and frequent presenter at the SSOF.  Runners-up in this selection process will have a chance to win one of these prizes: The $1,000 Film Florida Sara Fuller Scholarship, $1,000 Mel Maron Scholarship, $1,000 Gray Family Scholarship and $1,000 Dr. B. Carleton Bryant Scholarship.

**NEW: The Nellie & Fred Chasin Screenwriting Award has increased from $650 to $1,000.  The Teacher of the Award now includes a $1,000 prize – be sure to nominate your favorite instructor!
