Palm Beach County was honored with eleven 2016 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for innovative, effective programs that enhance services to residents. The awards were presented at NACo’s annual conference and exposition July 22-25 in Long Beach, California.

The Information Systems Services (ISS) Department earned a total of five NACo Achievement Awards in three categories. ISS’ Reciprocal Agreement for Shared Data Centers, Shared IT Services Program, and Digital Inclusion Program were recognized in the Information Technology category. The IT Student Internship Program was honored in the category of Personnel Management, Employee Training & Benefits, and PBC Interactive won in the Community/Economic Development category.

The Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) earned three NACo awards. Winding Waters Natural Area: Rediscovering the Wild in Our Own Backyards and Jupiter/Carlin Beach Habitat Restoration were each honored in the category of County Resiliency: Infrastructure, Energy & Sustainability. The Fullerton Island Restoration project won in the Parks & Recreation category.

The Office of Community Revitalization (OCR) earned two achievement awards. OCR’s Putting Kids First: Community Back to School Program won in the Children and Youth category, and the KaBOOM! Playground at Lake Worth West Neighborhood Park won in the Parks & Recreation category.

The Water Utilities Department’s (WUD) Toolbox Initiative: Changing the Learning Culture training program was recognized in the Personnel Management, Employee Training & Benefits category.

Begun in 1970, NACo’s annual Achievement Awards program is aimed at recognizing innovative county government programs and services. Each nominee is judged on its own merits and not against other applications received.
