LEGENDS STATUS: CHUCK ELDERD & VANILLA ICE HONORED AS FILM FLORIDA LEGENDS

Palm Beach County’s impact on Florida’s film and television industry recognized two influential leaders, former Film Commissioner Chuck Elderd and Palm Beach County resident Rob Van Winkle, also known as “Vanilla Ice”, with the prestigious Film Florida Legends Award for their lasting contributions to the state’s creative economy.

A true pioneer of Florida’s industry, Elderd was appointed in 1989 as the first Film Commissioner for the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission, establishing the vision and infrastructure that continues to support productions across the region today.

Under his leadership, Palm Beach County became known as a collaborative, film-friendly destination with diverse locations and efficient coordination. He created the County’s Free One-Stop Permitting Process, streamlining approvals and setting a model for film-friendly municipalities throughout Florida. 

He also served as the first president of Film Florida and was the visionary behind The Palm Beaches TV, the County’s official tourism television channel showcasing the destination’s culture, experiences, and attractions.

Van Winkle has remained closely connected to Palm Beach County through productions that highlight the area’s distinctive character, including his widely recognized series The Vanilla Ice Project, filmed extensively across South Florida. 

For more than two decades, the famous rapper has supported emerging talent through The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films, presenting the Music Video Award that bears his name. His continued investment in the community includes plans for a new three-story brewery and pop-culture museum in Lake Worth Beach.

Together, Elderd and Van Winkle represent the strength of Palm Beach County’s film community, reflecting a legacy of leadership and creativity, in Florida’s production industry.
