G-Star’s Cell Phone Film Festival For Middle School Students Is Back!

Academy Award Winner, Famous Producers to be judges!

Palm Springs, Florida (10/18/2016) – Middle school students are wildly creative.  Given the right environment their talent can flourish.  Every middle school student has a cell phone, and every cell phone has a video camera.  Combine the two elements and you have the Second Annual Cell Phone Film Festival for Middle School Students (CPFF) presented by the G-Star Studios (www.gstarstudios.com) and the Palm Beach International Film Festival (www.pbifilmfest.org) taking place on Saturday, October 22nd.  The judges for this year’s entrants are the Academy Award winning Co-writer and Producer of CRASH and Million Dollar Baby; a Special Visual Effects Supervisor of all three Lord of the Rings movies; the Film and Broadway Producer of Rock of Ages with Tom Cruise, Legally Blonde; and the Creator and Writer of the TV show Wings and world traveling Field Producer of NBC’s The Today Show. 

“This event is open to every Palm Beach County 6th, 7th and 8th grader,” says the CPFF’s Founder, Dawn Hauptner.  “No experience is necessary for this free event.  In one day we teach the students how to write, shoot and edit their film.”  Hauptner further explains, “The big bonus is they get to shoot their film in a world class motion picture Sound Stage (named one of the seven best in the world) and on the back lot of the G-Star Studios, the largest movie studio in south Florida, while utilizing massive film sets already constructed.” 

Students can enter by registering at www.gstarschool.org/cpff where they will find the preliminary information on how to shoot their film.

Last year 142 middle school students were mentored by the International Baccalaureate high school Film Department students from the G-Star School of the Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts.  Collectively, they shot 33 short films and were honored at the PBIFF Student Showcase of Films presentation at Lynn University where they walked the Red Carpet, interviewed by the paparazzi and received the winner’s CPFF “Best Film Award.”
