January 29, 2021

January 28, 2021- Film Florida, a statewide not-for-profit entertainment production trade association, has announced the launch of the Florida Emerging Filmmakers Fund, providing cash in the amount of $500 - $1,000 per project to deserving filmmakers needing help for their film projects. In addition to cash, projects selected for the Emerging Filmmakers Fund will receive mentorship from an industry professional throughout the project.

“Film Florida is dedicated to nurturing Florida’s filmmakers and we’re excited to launch this new program for those emerging in our industry,” Gail Morgan, President of Film Florida said. “The volume of talented Florida filmmakers is immense and Film Florida is committed to nurturing those talents and encouraging them to produce Florida stories. We look forward to adding the Emerging Filmmakers Fund to the stable of resources available to filmmakers.”

Eligible projects submitted may include a broad range of subject matter and are judged by a committee of top industry professionals within Film Florida. As its name implies, the goal of the fund is to provide financial support to emerging filmmakers in Florida. The program funds filmmakers working in both short and long formats. All genres are eligible- documentary, dramatic, educational, narrative, animated and experimental- whose films demonstrate advanced and innovative skills and whose works relates to the goals of Film Florida including creating jobs in the film and entertainment production industry and promoting economic development and tourism for the State of Florida. Filmmakers from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Projects that are approved will receive cash disbursement in 2 payments based on approval of the mentor.

The Florida Emerging Filmmakers Fund is the third grant/scholarship from Film Florida. The organization currently hosts The Don Davis Film Finishing Fund, which provides cash and in-kind production services to filmmakers in order to finish their films. Additionally, Film Florida hosts The Sara Fuller Scholarship, which was created in recognition of organizations that support Film Education. The program’s namesake, Sara Fuller, was a true pioneer in Florida’s Production Industry, and this scholarship honors her memory by supporting future filmmakers and encouraging excellence in the field of motion picture education.
