FILM FLASHBACK: UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

Up Close & Personal (1996), starring Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer, filmed a powerful climactic scene at Hundley Farms in Belle Glade. The remote airstrip and surrounding sugar cane fields stood in as a remote location, where Redford’s character, Warren Justice, prepares to board a plane to Panama. On the phone with Tally (Pfeiffer), who is covering a hostage situation, Warren coaches her through what to say live on-air. As the conversation ends and he moves toward the plane, he is tragically shot and killed.

The film was made on a $60 million budget and earned approximately $90 million worldwide. While it wasn’t a blockbuster hit domestically, it found success internationally and is memorable for its iconic Céline Dion (who was a resident of Jupiter during that time) ballad “Because You Loved Me.”
