EDUCATION CORNER: SET-JETTING TAKES THE SPOTLIGHT

Florida’s largest student film competition and awards show, The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF), is now open for submissions, and this year’s theme is Set-Jetting! Inspired by Palm Royale, the 2026 awards show captures the stylish, glamorous, and delightfully campy spirit of film-inspired travel, celebrating how movies and television transport audiences to stunning destinations like Palm Beach County, Paris, Hawaii, and New York City — no passport required!

Set-jetting, or film-induced tourism, is a fast-growing phenomenon in which fans and travelers explore locations seen on screen, boosting local economies and destination appeal. While the theme sets the tone for this year’s red-carpet celebration, students are encouraged to submit projects on any topic, using their creativity to bring bold ideas to life.

“Set-Jetting is more than a trend; it’s a movement that connects the power of film, tourism, and culture,” said Michelle Hillery, Palm Beach County Film Commissioner. “Students are welcome to explore the theme if it inspires them, but we invite every kind of story that showcases imagination and originality.”

Now in its 31st year, SSOF honors Florida’s next generation of filmmakers with over $30,000 in scholarships and awards. The submission deadline is February 4, 2026, and the red-carpet awards show will take place May 1, 2026, at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.
