COGNIZANT CLASSIC & THE MATCH BRING GOLF ELITE TO PBC

Two headline sporting events recently brought several of the world’s top golfers to Palm Beach County this spring - The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches tournament (March 29 - April 4) and Capital One’s The Match (a 12-hole charity skins game held on Feb. 26).

The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches was broadcast on NBC, Golf Channel and Peacock, with the play-by-play action announced by Dan Hicks and Steve Sands. Taking place at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, nineteen of the world’s top 50 golfers participated, including Jupiter residents Rory McIlroy, the second-ranked player in the world, and Rickie Fowler, the 31st ranked player. Austin Eckroat shot 17-under — a Champion Course tournament record, to take home the title.

The Match was broadcast on TNT, truTV, HLN and streamed live on Max. A star-studded crew, including Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley, called the event. DJ Khaled and NHL on TNT personality Paul Bissonnette provided commentary. McIlroy emerged champion at The Match – which took place at The Park West Palm, in a sudden-death playoff against Max Homa and women’s golf superstars Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang.

Palm Beach County, already the epicenter of the golf world, will also be home to the upcoming The Golf League (TGL). Set to have six teams, TGL brands itself as “a blend of technology and in-person golf.” The matches will consist of four players competing in 18-hole match play contests that will be capped at two hours. All league competitions will be shown on ESPN.
