The 30th Annual Student Showcase of Films will Open for Submissions in October 2024

The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) is the largest statewide film competition and award show for Florida student filmmakers, graphic designers and digital media artists. For nearly three decades, the juried competition has recognized outstanding high school and college students by presenting scholarships and awards in the following categories: College & High School Feature/Shorts, Documentary, Music Video, Animation, Environmental PSA, Commercial PSA, Poster Design and Screenwriting, the competition was widened with two new categories, the Palm Beach County Tourism PSA and the Teacher Appreciation Award

As a tribute to the legacy of film legend Burt Reynolds, the SSOF presents the Burt Reynolds Scholarship Award, a $5,000 cash prize to a Palm Beach County high school senior. Mr. Reynolds was a local icon, longtime supporter, and frequent presenter at the SSOF. With runners up taking home one of the following prizes; The $1,000 Sara Fuller Scholarship, $1,000 Mel Maron Scholarship, and new this year, $1,000 Gray Family Scholarship and the $1000 Dr. B. Carleton Bryant Scholarship.

Entries are viewed and evaluated by a panel of entertainment industry experts from around the globe. Click here to see the complete list of judges from the 2024 SSOF. Past judges include but are not limited to Rapper and Actor Vanilla Ice, American Idol and America's Got Talent musical director Michael Orland, four-time Emmy award-winning visual effects artist Adam Howard, Grammy-nominated songwriter Elsten Torres, digital art pioneer Laurence Gartel, Hollywood composer Hal Rosenfeld, Emmy-nominated actress Kelsey Scott, Emmy and Grammy-nominated composer Ryan Shore, acclaimed artist and founder of The Boynton Beach Art District Rolando Chang Barrero, TV and film producer Elayne "E.K." Keratsis, award-winning music producer and composer Jamie Cuadra, and more.

Winners walked the red-carpet, were interviewed by the media and received awards and scholarships at the in-person show on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Award-winning actor, director, and host of South Florida PBS' On the Town in The Palm Beaches with Frank Licari, was at the helm of another unforgettable show that was themed around Artificial Intelligence. Guests enjoyed networking with industry professionals and a show filled with original performances, finalists film clips, and two new exciting award categories, Teacher of the Year and Palm Beach County Tourism PSA.

The SSOF is the cornerstone of the education outreach initiative of The Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission and engages faculty and school administrators in guiding student participation. The project is funded by the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners through the Department of Housing & Economic Development, Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, The School District of Palm Beach County, and the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission.
