The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) is open for entries! The 2021 competition is free to enter for aspiring filmmakers, writers, graphic designers and digital media artists enrolled in any Florida high school or college. SSOF will award over $20,000 in cash and prizes in the following categories: Feature/Short, Documentary, Music Video, Animation, Commercial PSA, Education PSA, Environmental PSA, Screenwriting, and Poster Design! And, in an enduring tribute to film legend, Burt Reynolds, the SSOF will present to a PBC high school senior, The Burt Reynolds Scholarship, with a big $5,000 cash prize! Entries are judged by an international panel of more than 40 entertainment industry experts. Among the list of previous judges are music star and TV personality Vanilla Ice, Emmy Award-winning TV writer/showrunner Chic Eglee (American Gods), Musical Director Michael Orland (American Idol/America’s Got Talent), Emmy-nominated actress Kelsey Scott (12 Years a Slave), ESPN documentary filmmaker Billy Corben, visual effects master Dean Lyon, Hollywood screenwriter Hal Cantor, Hollywood Composer Hal Rosenfeld and Miami casting giant Ellen Jacoby.
Winners will be announced in the spring of 2021 in a newly formatted award show hosted by award-winning actor/director Frank Licari (Spiral: From the Book of Saw, CBS’s Blue Bloods, and South Florida PBS’ On the Town in The Palm Beaches). Previous award show presenters include musicians Vanilla Ice and Howie D. (Backstreet Boys); TV host Montel Williams, Palm Beach Post pop culture writer Leslie Gray Streeter, actors Cheri Oteri (SNL), Linda Blair (The Exorcist), Bruce Campbell (Ash Vs. The Evil Dead), Clint Howard (The Waterboy), Thomas Ian Nicholas (American Pie) and of course, the late Burt Reynolds.
