From the Hollywood-style opening night to the closing night
awards ceremony, The 8th Annual Palm Beach International
Film Festival enjoyed 7 days of non-stop events where
future filmmakers hob-kn obbed
with industry greats. Hollywood legend Robert Evans
attended the opening
night
film and party atop the Strand in West Palm Beach. The
Festival’s Grand Gala Awards Show welcomed Academy Award®
Winner /Best Actor Adrien Brody, Michael Jackson and Chris
Tucker at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Irv Goodnoff
hosted over 300 people at Monday night’s High-Def Double
Feature and Seminar, which ended up being an overwhelming
success. Goodnoff also attended the High-Def seminar on
Saturday stating “the attendance and enthusiasm demonstrated
that this community is eager to experience the cutting edge
of art and technology.”

Designed to spotlight the talent of Florida’s youth, the
Showcase is considered an investment in our future
filmmakers. Chaille Stoval, a winner in the High
School Category stated, “I was really really impressed with
the idea that you guys were doing it all for the
students...It made me
feel
that my work was really appreciated on a good level.” This
year’s winners also included Johnathan Vasquez and
Dayana
Valero in the High School category, Andrea Olabarria,
Ryan Pomeranz, J.R. Poli and Michael McWhorter
in the Community College category, and Wes Ball,
Cory Claffey-Koller and John Thursby in the
University category. The prestigious Burt Reynolds
Scholarships were awarded to Swati Kapilla and
Laura Cray. Special thanks to PBCC, Al Sapienza, the
panelists, our esteemed judges and the
volunteers who gave their time. |
On Saturday, April
19th, Compass Reality allowed an apartment above Big City to
be transformed in to a photo gallery for the night. Patrons
enjoyed hors devours and beverages donated by Big City and
Red Lion Pub. Local photographers and organizers of the
Festival, Greg Ross and Ralf Gschwend, wowed the Mayor with
their 3-D presentation of county-wide photos. Included among
the professional works of art by the children this
fundraising event benefited, The
Children’s
Coalition, Inc., (TCCI). This organization provides at-risk
youth with a positive alternative to crime and
substance
abuse. TCCI believes that through such media as graphics,
photography and videography, kids can discover their hidden
talents, learn technical skills and ultimately develop an
improved sense of self-esteem that will help them succeed.

Magic
Hour Pictures, Inc, an independent
production company from LA, comes to South Florida to shoot
The Glades. Staring Susan Ward (Jill,
Shallow Hal), The Glades is a murder mystery
geared to “Generation Y”. Producer Marc Bienstock
came to Palm Beach County earlier this year to search for
the perfect locations to illuminate the film. Lake Worth
City Hall was used to depict a small town courthouse in
the mythical
Florida city. The film crew also traveled to the Boca
Inlet and Billy Swamps Safari. Location Scout Jim
Small tells the FTC that the shoot went well,
“City Hall looks great on film. The Pizza Carnival, Italian
Ice Vender and the corner drug store all made out well from
the added business that the film crew brought.”
The producers, cast, and crew would like to thank the
city of Lake Worth for making this happen. |

The
National Croquet Club
700 Florida Mango Road
West Palm Beach, Fl 33406
561.478.2300
If you are looking for that particular
location that airs eminence and prestige, The National
Croquet Club is perfect. The pristine lawn that graces
Club’s landscape was without a doubt the reason Chrysler
chose to shoot a commercial staring singer
Celine Dion. The
lush grounds have also been a popular destination for still
photography shoots including the Brooks Brothers and
Appleseed catalogs. The mansion-like Club House features
18-foot-wide verandas that overlook the largest croquet lawn
in the world is and furnished with exquisite Edwardian
antiques.
