 The
long wait for Bad Boys II was finally rewarded with
an advance screening and reception hosted by The Palm Beach
County Film & Television Commission. The screening provided
the perfect opportunity to thank Delray Beach City
Officials, neighbors affected during the production and
county, state and federal personal that worked so hard to
make this project a success. Attendees got their first
glimpse
of the huge special effects explosion that put Delray Beach
in a Hollywood blockbuster. Guests included homeowner
Eric Cherry, County Commissioner Burt Aaronson,
Delray Beach Mayor Jeff Perlman, South Bay Mayor Clarence
Anthony, West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel and Former West
Palm Beach Mayor Nancy Graham. Prior to the screening,
Film Commissioner Chuck Elderd thanked Delray Beach
and the entire county for making this film possible and for
continuing to support the film and television industry. |

Once
again, the PBIFF can take a bow for bringing together
professionals to get business rolling….Actor Al Sapienza,
known for such roles as Mikey Palmice in the hit HBO series,
The Sopranos, came back to Palm Beach County
to appear in a locally produced independent film
Redemption. The feature film is a collaboration
between Treasure Coast Studios and Rhino Studios.
Redemption is based on the lives of 5 people who are
looking for “redemption” and how they intertwine, leading
them all to the same place. Sapienza, a guest host of the
2003 PBIFF Student Showcase of Films, saw a trailer for the
film during the student’s movie première and negotiations
began. The cast and crew of this thriller are both former
and current students of Palm Beach Community College and
welcome the experience to work with such a seasoned actor.
Michelle Hillery, Director of Operations commented “These
are exactly the types of relationships
we are working to build as a result of the partnership
between the PBIFF and the Film and Television Commission.” |
Cynthia
Barnett
weaves together the facets of what makes South Florida
successful in the television production industry in the
August edition of Florida Trend. Palm Beach
County production companies Five Star Productions and
InfoWorx are spotlighted in the spread as two
companies that have flourished in the county, a place she
calls “the center of a booming independent TV production
industry.” The InfoWorx secret has been to partner
themselves with products they believe in and to
produce
high-quality infomercials, a niche industry Barnett feels
“must overcome a checkered history.” Five Star takes a
different route utilizing “sponsor-embedded programming.”
This formula creates an opportunity for advertisers to be on
one of Five Star’s award-winning television shows that are
seen on popular networks such as Oxygen and
Outdoor Life Network. The presence of successful
production has given Palm Beach Cou nty
national exposure as a fast-growing production center. |

ACTOR BURT REYNOLDS WRAPS ANOTHER SHOOT AT KO-MAR FOR
ESPN (Top) |

 Burt
Reynolds adds to his highly
respected repertoire of projects while starring in
commercials to be aired on ESPN Classic. Ko-Mar
Productions shot Reynolds’ portion of ESPN Classic’s new
show Reel Classics, comparable to
TBS’s Dinner and a Movie geared toward the
sportsman, in June. The commercials will feature
Reynolds sitting in a locker room-styled set (impeccably
dressed by well known set designer Bobby Amor) and
casually inviting viewers to join him on Sunday nights.
The commercials took two days to shoot, a very
aggressive schedule, and will be used to prom ote
the show in 84 million homes nationwide. If you love
sports and movies, then ESPN Classic is where you belong
on Sunday Nights! |

 Walter
T. Shaw, son of inventor Walter L. Shaw, Sr.,
aims to bring recognition to his late father in his
feature film, All for Nothin’. The
surviving Shaw unveiled a sculptured bust in the
likeness of his father, created by acclaimed artist
Yaacov Heller, at The Walter Lewis Shaw, Sr. Memorial
brunch honoring his father’s legacy. The film
reveals the story of how the inventor of the world’s
most regularly used communications devices, including
conference calling and touch-tone dialing, never
received the proper recognition or financial rewards and
his son, who turned to a life of crime to try to take
back what his father never received. The younger Shaw
has spent over a decade developing financing for the
film and at one point risked losing it due to his
inflexibility to move the production out of the United
States, saying “I see no palm trees in Canada like in
Florida where my dad made a living.” The film, to be
shot in West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, is currently
in pre-production and will star Stephen Dorff and
academy award winner, Sir Ben Kingsley. |
