FIVE STAR ENTERTAINMENT

INTERNSHIP

 

Five Star Entertainment is looking for interns to be an active part of the Five Star everyday environment.  Potential interns should be enrolled in school and interested in pursuing a full time career in the production world.

 

Interns will be involved in various responsibilities including, but not limited to, studio and field production, show research and clerical duties.  Candidate must be a team player and most importantly have a willingness to learn from a team of professionals.

 

Five Star is presently producing a daily morning television show for the Lifetime network as well as many other projects.

WPTV CHANNEL 5

ASSISTNAT NEWS DIRECTOR

Department:          News

Supervisor            Director of News and Broadcast Operations

Start Date:             Immediately

 

This list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive.  Additions, deletions, or changes can be made at any time.

 

Example of Duties Performed: 

 

1.       Actively participate in the supervision of news staff of 90+ employees.  Recruit, hire and train news department personnel.

2.       Participate in the editorial direction for the news department to include on-air, on-line, mobile, radio and digital channels.  Work closely with Director of New Media.

3.       Implement and devise strategic plans for audience growth on-air, on-line and on mobile communications devices. 

4.       Involvement in programming and quality control of 24 hour digital Weather Plus channel.

5.       Participate in the editorial direction and quality control of news/weather updates for radio and newspaper partners.

6.       Active involvement in quality control of High Definition local news programming.   

7.       Assist in maintaining news department budget.

8.       Participate in sweeps planning and help guide special projects reporting.

9.       Work with other department managers to accomplish the objectives of this station.

10.    Supervise schedule of work assignments and shifts for news personnel including vacation requests.

11.    Take part in weekend manager on-call rotation.

12.    Perform evaluations for direct reports and other predetermined news employees.

13.    Assume responsibilities of News Director in his/her absence.

14.    Perform other duties as needed and as directed by News Director.

 

Requirements:

 

1.       Education:                     College degree from an accredited College or University.

Communication or Journalism emphasis preferred.

 

2.       Experience:                  Minimum two years TV management experience in a major

Market preferred.

 

3.       Skills/Abilities:              Must be able to work well under pressure and exhibit leadership skills that allow station to achieve daily deadlines. Must have good creative and editorial judgment.  Mastery of journalistic ethics and libel laws.  Flexible work hours required, including holidays, weekends and evenings.  Must be available for overnight travel.  Must be extremely organized and able to handle multiple tasks at a time.  Excellent interpersonal skills.  Great writing skills and creativity required. 

 

4.       License/Certificates:   Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

MANAGING EDITOR

1.             Supervise day to day operations of the newsroom.

2.             Work closely with the assignment desk manager to assign stories and monitor story          coverage on-air and on-line.

3.             Work closely with all anchors, reporters, photographers and producers to conceptualize, coordinate and edit story packages to conform to station policies, practices and procedures.

4.          Schedule reporters and anchors.

5.          Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned news employees.

6.          Oversee investigative unit.

7.          Attend news manager and sweeps meetings.

8.           Performs other duties as needed and as directed by News Director.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:                             Bachelors degree in journalism or related field.

 

Experience:                          Minimum of five years television news experience preferred.

 

Equipment:                           Computer literacy preferred.

 

Skills/

Abilities:                                 Strong news judgment required.  Work well in high-pressure situations under deadline; self-motivated; adaptable to changing schedules.  Excellent writing skills required; must have creative and editorial judgment with mastery of journalistic ethics and libel laws.  Must work well with news personnel and other station employees and the general public.

VIDEO EDITOR

Responsible for: Editing stories for newscasts, cut-ins, and special projects.

Recording satellite feeds.

                                Maintaining videotape-filing system.

Performing other duties as needed, and as directed by News Operations Manager, Senior Editor, News Director, and Assignment Desk.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION:       High School Diploma or equivalent. Some formal technical school training with certificate of graduation.

EXPERIENCE:     One year editing experience in a television station.

EQUIPMENT:       Knowledge of broadcast television and editing equipment, including non-linear editing systems.          

                                Also must have basic newsroom computer skills.

 

ABILITIES:            Must be able to focus on a specific task despite distractions.  Ability to work well with producers, reporters, and other staff in high-pressure situations. Must be available for shift changes, nights and/or weekends and possible overtime hours, as well as on call.

Experience:          Minimum of two years as a television news writer, reporter or producer preferred.  Knowledge of computer assisted reporting techniques.

 

License/

Certificates:           Valid drivers’ license and proof of insurance.

Abilities:                 Work well in high-pressure situations under deadlines.  Must be self-motivated and adaptable to changing schedules. ONLINE NEWS PRODUCER/DEVELOPER

1)       Work with assignment editors and newsroom managers to plan, structure, assign stories, monitor coverage and write news content for WPTV.com.

2)       Assist in creation of "vertical" content as needed. Will work with the Department Heads to create and repurpose content for use in WPTV.com vertical products.

3)       Create interactive website features using design and computer programming skills.

4)       Create advanced HTML and Flash programming, and searchable online databases.

5)       Perform other duties as needed and directed by the WPTV.com Site Manager.

 

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for this job will have the following skills:

 

1)       Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

2)       Experience: Website applications development experience necessary.

3)       Programs: Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, Ajax, SQL, .NET, Flash, Photoshop, streaming video technologies, and other related programs.

4)       Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of HTML and a thorough familiarity with Internet trends, terms and key players. Strong all-around web developer/designer who can work independently as well as with a team. This is an extremely creative position responsible for developing exciting new features on WPTV.com. Superb word skills. He or she must understand grammar and be able to write compelling headlines, promos, and news content. Experience or internship working in a TV news and/or newspaper environment. Creativity and the desire to be a team player. Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.

STUDIO CAMERA OPERATOR – PART TIME
