Theatre and activism collide in the new documentary short Awakening: After Parkland. The film follows a group of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSD) as they rehearse a production of the musical Spring Awakening at Boca Raton’s BARCLAY Performing Arts Center in the months following the devastating mass shooting that took the lives of 17 students on February 14, 2018. Award-winning documentary filmmakers Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster teamed up for Awakening: After Parkland to spotlight the strength of these students and the significance of the message of the musical. The documentary features interviews with students and teachers of MSD, along with the musical’s two Tony Award-winning creators, book & lyrics writer Steven Sater and composer Duncan Sheik.
