The late Burt Reynolds was a staunch supporter of The Palm Beaches Student Showcase
of Films (SSOF) and a mentor of up-and-coming talent. Each year, the SSOF awards a
Palm Beach County high school senior a scholarship bearing his name to help create a path
for students seeking a career in the film and television industry. The SSOF will continue
to honor excellence in filmmaking, as well as the legacy of Burt Reynolds,
by providing scholarships in his name for years to come.
The Sara Fuller Scholarship, sponsored by Film Florida, is awarded
to the runner-up of the Burt Reynolds Scholarship.
THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!
After all the eligible applicants’ submissions are reviewed by a specially selected scholarship panel consisting of some of Mr. Reynold’s closest friends, the top finalists are picked up from school via limousine and driven in style to the beautiful Jupiter Maltz Theatre - the official home of the Burt Reynolds Scholarship. Here they meet with the panel for the one-on-one interviews!
Finalists should be photo ready and prepared to talk about their body of work and their experience. Interview discussions are usually free and open, ranging from a student’s favorite director to their plans for college. While all of this is happening, everything is being memorialized on video for a special presentation which will be shown at the live award show during the scholarship presentations. To make it as Burt Reynolds Scholarship Finalist, means something extra special exists in the student, something beyond exceptional talent alone!
Recipients of the Burt Reynolds and Sara Fuller Scholarships are announced at the SSOF Red Carpet Award Show held at Lynn University on April 3, 2020!
