2000: production heating up

International
Miniseries Shoots in PBC!
A television miniseries
recently traveled across the seas to shoot in Palm Beach County. The British
miniseries, Daylight Robbery is slated for prime-time in England
this October. Michelle Collins, of Eastenders fame stars. Bob
Peterson, of National Teleproductions, served as production manager. Former FTC
Location Manager Amy Robinson was the location manager for this production.
The story picks up where the
last series left off, with the lives of two female bank robbers, one of whom
flees to Florida with the loot. She also brings along her former nemesis, the
police officer who made a mission out of catching her, and now has made it his
mission to protect her. Their stay in Florida is short lived, but exciting. Gun
battles, untimely deaths and a foiled robbery attempt send the story careening
back to England.
Swimming
with Sharks!
Jim Abernathy’s Scuba Adventures dove head first into
making videos. Jim and Anna Abernathy guide only the most brave hearted into the
waters of the deep to come face to face with the ocean’s most terrifying fish.
First, you meet the boat in Riveria Beach and take a
leisurely ride into the Atlantic while you are carefully briefed on appropriate
shark etiquette. You don your gear and dive in only to be surrounded by sharks!
The best news is...you’ll have it all on video!
Abernathy has been diving in the Palm Beaches and Bahamas
for over 30 years. The ocean and its creatures are his passion.
This company is really taking off. From January 2000 to
April 2000, they reported over 80 production days, booked over 190 hotel room
nights. For more info, call 1-888-901-DIVE.

Adds New Ammunition to Incentive Arsenal
Governor Bush is planning to
enthusiastically sign into law the incentive bill which will make Palm Beach
County more attractive than ever. The Entertainment Industry Incentive
bill, recently flew past the State Legislature amid great praise and
excitement. The incentive bill provides
direct tax relief on motion picture, video and sound recording equipment
used for productions in Florida. It also allows for the current
tax rebate to be taken at the point-of-sale (for qualified production
companies).
This newly passed incentive bill enhances the current
incentive programs offered by Palm Beach County. Already, the County provides
the Product Placement and the
Job Growth Incentive Fund .

How
did I do this? Two more unique structures are hard to find, but in the March
issue, a photo of the Canopy
Palms Resort was incorrectly identified as The Colony of Palm Beach.
I must have been temporarily blinded by the brightness of the Canopy Palms. My
apologies and those of the FTC.
Both
of these beautiful resorts offer warm hospitality, many amenities and fabulous
service.

SAG and PBCC Unite to
Produce Student Films!
SAG actors are working along with Palm Beach
Community College (PBCC) film students in a joint effort to produce a
feature film. The “union” between the two groups bodes well for future
cooperative efforts in this area.
Negotiations were facilitated by Dr. Mike Branstetter,
head of PBCC Film Department, Ilse Earl, coordinator of the SAG
Conservatory in Palm Beach County, and Jose Garofala, co-producer and
director of the film.
The actors are working under a SAG contract which permits
participation and allows producers with small budgets access to professional
talent.
Ambrosi Productions from Miami recently shot for
Broder Bros. Catalog at Dubois Park and Jupiter Beach. This
two day shoot generated over 30 hotel rooms in Palm Beach County.
Mark Seliger Photography, New York, flew into
town April 30 to shoot Serena Williams for the July issue of Rolling
Stone.
The famous photographer wanted a continuous, consistent
architectural structure and found it in a bus stop on Lake Worth Beach. The
bus stop was painted for the shoot and flawlessly returned to its original
colors afterwards. The spread will be featured in the special sports
portfolio in the July issue.
Northbridge Productions is reporting record
production numbers! Things are really happening. According to Alexandra
Rafferty, Production Manager, Northbridge is shooting about twice a week
and production is only going to increase.
The Boho Studio, Miami Beach, used the Palm
Beach County Quarry in Boca Raton as the backdrop for their Bonafant
Drinking Water spread. The Location Manager, Dylan DelGuercio scoured
three counties to find the right, barren, “cool” look for the shoot. He
fell in love with the location and praised the PBC Quarry staff for their
help and enthusiasm.
Teaching Learning Network recently used one of
the Film Commission’s talented interns on a shoot for their upcoming
series, Roadside Journal. Jason Goldman, FTC Intern raved
about his experience. “I worked on every aspect of the production from
lighting to tape logging. It was a great learning experience!” Goldman is
two weeks away from completing the first phase of his internship program.
For more info on the FTC’s internship program, contact Michelle Hillery
at 561-233-1000.
Teen People
Magazine was in town shooting one of its upcoming covers with Serena
Williams.
