Takes Home 5 Medals in World Games |
At
the 2001 World Airgames held in Granada, Spain,
Pahokee-based teams took home 3 gold medals, 2
silver medals and one fourth place finish. This
event is the Olympics of skydiving and it is
quite spectacular that in its second year of
business, SkyDive America took five medals.
SkyDive America,
Pahokee, sponsors and trains the U.S. National
Freefly and Freestyle skydiving teams, the
Canadian 8-Way Formation Skydiving Team and the
Italian Freefly and Freestyle teams. "This
just proves that we are truly creating
champions," said Larry Kershenbaum, SkyDive
America President, of his crew's exceptional
performance in the international games.

Boca
Raton Firefighters Fire Up Production! |
The
City of Boca Raton Fire and Rescue Department
recently released the first in a series of
30-minute television shows, focusing on public
safety issues. Lt. Frank Montilli, Public
Information Officer, says there used to be a Boca
Heat show several years ago, but interest waned,
the participants were too busy and the fire
fizzled out. He has always wanted to resurrect the
show and finally received the "go ahead"
from the Chief. "We do all the work for the
production, the writing, the filming, the editing.
It's an incredible way of getting our message
across and supplying important public safety
information to our community," says Montilli.
The
first show deals with Hurricane Preparedness, just
in time for the rains. Montilli plans to produce
one show per month, targeting a new topic each
time.

Swept Away To TV |
Two
Palm Beach County students just wrapped production
on the first season of their new talk show, Swept
Away TV. In a story reminiscent of a
Hollywood discovery, Jaime and Amanda Rich, two
talented local young ladies, were singing at party
when they were approached by a local producer and
offered their own television series. The girls
jumped right on it. Not only did they recognize an
opportunity to showcase their own talent, they
realized the potential to contribute to their
community. Since that day last fall, they have
been hard at work on their teen- oriented talk
show, Swept Away TV. In fact, Amanda
and Jaime were recently awarded the prestigious
President Bush Student Service Award for
outstanding community service. Swept Away TV
is on summer hiatus and will resume production in
late August. Teens interested in volunteering can
contact Amanda via their website www.sweptawayonline.com |

Burt Be Back? |
The
Burt Reynold's Museum has been hard at work
putting together a deal with the Town of Jupiter
to locate the facility in Palm Beach County. Mike
Daniel, President of the Burt Reynolds Museum,
says that it is too soon to make an official
announcement about the location of the museum, but
he is excited about the possibilities of keeping
it in Palm Beach County.
For awhile, rumors
surfaced regarding the possibility that the Town
of Jupiter would lose this revenue and tourist
generating attraction. Now it seems we worried for
naught. "Keeping the Burt Reynolds Museum in
Palm Beach County is important because he has been
essential in developing production here,"
says Film Commissioner Chuck Elderd. |

Returning home to
Palm Beach after ten years in Hollywood is former
FTC intern John Bennardo. After his internship,
Bennardo took off to L.A. to seek fame and
fortune in filmmaking. He has had a wonderful string
of success starting with America's Funniest Videos
and most recently on Oprah's latest endeavor, The
Oxygen Network.
He actually traveled
to Hollywood to earn his Master's in screenwriting
and has continued to write and develop scripts as he
produced, directed and edited various programming
segments. He is delighted with the growth and
development of the industry in South Florida and
says that now is the right time for him "to
return home, put my Hollywood talents to use and
help my community continue to grow," says
Bennardo.
