State Survey Verifies PBC's Strength in Film & Television Production

Florida's film and entertainment industry generated $ 3.9 billion in revenue last year, according to the first annual economic assessment of Florida's film and entertainment industry compiled by MGT of America and released by the Florida Film Commission this month.

"Florida is an active production center in the U.S. via the bitality and the health of our support businesses and service providers," Governor Jeb Bush said.  "These findings show how much film and entertainment production contributes to Florida's economy in jobs and revenue."

The MGT study analyzes industry trends in the state in order to determine the current economic impact of the industry.  The report concluded that 94% of the industry's economic activity occurred in FL's seven primary metropolitan areas, including PBC.  Overall production in PBC was evaluated as generating $96.7 million in production revenue which is 5% more than the PBC Film Commission's 1999 Production Activity Report which recorded a total of $92 million.  MGT also reported that "the majority of the industry activity is in the television and cable segment."  This is consistent with the PBC Film Commission's 1999 finding that television production comprised %58 million of the total revenue generated.  Last month, PBC reported an all time high of $116 million in production revenue, a 26% increase over 1999.
